Frequently Asked SEO Questions

Digital marketing is a broad and often misunderstood space. Here are some of the more common SEO questions we hear and our responses.

1How long does it take for SEO to "work"?
Search Engine Optimization (or "SEO") can begin working immediately if your digital marketing partner knows their stuff. In order for this to happen, first you need to know where things are coming up short. For instance, are the search engines able to properly crawl and index your pages? Do the pages you want to rank have the proper keywords and formatting? We utilize a uniform checklist for each of your pages (just like pilots do before flying) to be certain everything that can be done, has been done and done well.
2Can you guarantee first position in the search results?
No one can deliver on that "guarantee" because two people using the same search engine for identical terms at the same moment can see different results. What appears in first position for one person may be different than what the other person sees. Not all terms are worth ranking first for anyway because they have very low search volume. Digital marketing professionals who make this guarantee are giving the profession a bad name.
3Is SEO really "free"?
Someone has to do the work and it's likely they are being paid something for their knowledge and effort. Unlike online ads, though, really good SEO will continue to deliver visitors long after the work is done. Paid ads stop delivering visitors when the spending stops.
4Does my site/page have to be fast to rank?
Not at all. There are lots and lots of slow web pages that rank really well. Page speed is one of a couple hundred search engine ranking signals. While page speed makes the user experience more pleasant (and improves the likelihood of a successful visit) it has a very small impact on ranking.
5Why did my ranking crash after we parted with our last agency? What did they do?
It might not be the agencies doing. Or, it might. There are a number of things that could be going on here. For starters, I like to believe the best in people. One possible reason this happened, though, is the search engine could have changed their search algorithm with the unfortunate timing of being near your parting of ways.

But, if the agency built a large backlink profile for your page(s), they could have shut all those backlinks off. Or, if they have/had access to your web hosting, they could have been nefarious and created a noindex directive.

There are any number of possible explanations. This sort of situation warrants looking into further with a comprehensive SEO audit to completely understand what has happened and how to remedy it.

These are only a few of the questions we hear. You probably have questions of your own. If you'd like to have someone to talk with who doesn't have an agenda, who won't try to sell you on this, that or the other thing we'd love to chat and get to know each other. If nothing else, you have a new friend to bounce things off of who's only interest is your complete understanding of the options you have.

Let's dive in!

How does digital marketing work?

Digital marketing involves promoting products or services through various online platforms and channels. It offers a wide range of marketing techniques, including search engine optimization (SEO), social media marketing, email marketing, content marketing, and more. Unlike traditional marketing, which primarily targets a local or specific audience, digital marketing goes far beyond geographical boundaries. It helps you reach a global audience, allowing businesses to target a larger pool of potential customers. Digital marketing also provides more accurate data and insights, enabling businesses to track and measure the effectiveness of their marketing efforts in real time. With the rise of technology, the importance of digital marketing continues to grow. Whether you have a small local business or an international brand, digital marketing can help you establish your online presence, build brand awareness, generate leads, and increase sales.

Digital marketing works by utilizing various digital channels and platforms to promote products or services and reach target audiences. It involves the use of online strategies such as search engine optimization (SEO), pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, SMM, email marketing, and content marketing. The process begins with understanding the target market and setting specific marketing goals. Then, marketers create and implement digital campaigns that are tailored to the target audience. These campaigns are designed to increase brand awareness, generate leads, and drive sales. Through analytics and metrics, marketers can track the success of their campaigns and make data-driven decisions to optimize future marketing efforts. By leveraging the power of digital channels, businesses can expand their reach, engage with customers, and ultimately grow their revenues. Digital marketing allows for more targeted and personalized marketing messages, making it a highly effective and cost-efficient way to reach consumers in today's digital age.

Does digital marketing work for all businesses?

Digital marketing has become a crucial aspect for businesses in today's technology-driven world. Implementing a digital marketing strategy can be highly beneficial for businesses of all types. While traditional marketing methods are still important, digital marketing offers a vast array of marketing uses that can greatly enhance a company's reach and visibility. Whether it is B2C marketing or B2B marketing, digital marketing helps you reach a wider audience and engage with your target market more effectively. Digital marketing offers a variety of marketing tactics, such as search engine optimization (SEO), social media marketing, email marketing, and content marketing, which can be tailored to suit the specific needs and goals of any business. With the ability to target specific demographics and track and measure the success of marketing campaigns, digital marketing is a useful tool for all businesses looking to grow and succeed in the competitive market.

Digital marketing can be incredibly effective for many businesses, but it may not work for all. The success of a digital marketing campaign depends on various factors such as the target audience, industry, budget, and objectives of the business. For example, if a business primarily targets an older demographic that is less tech-savvy and not active on digital platforms, investing in digital marketing may not yield the desired results. Additionally, some industries, such as healthcare or legal services, may face restrictions on certain digital marketing tactics due to ethical or legal reasons. On the other hand, businesses in industries like e-commerce, technology, or fashion can greatly benefit from digital marketing as they have a larger online presence. Ultimately, it is important for businesses to assess their unique circumstances, resources, and goals before investing in digital marketing to ensure that it aligns with their target audience and can deliver the desired outcomes.

Types of Digital Marketing

Digital marketing is used in various forms to promote products and services through digital channels. B2B marketing targets businesses and involves strategies like email marketing, content marketing, and webinars to reach potential clients. On the other hand, B2C marketing aims at individual customers and utilizes techniques such as search engine optimization (SEO), paid advertising, and social media marketing to reach and engage consumers. Social media marketing involves creating and sharing content on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to increase brand visibility and attract potential customers. Additionally, businesses can leverage software to power digital marketing campaigns, enabling them to track and analyze user behavior, automate processes, and optimize marketing efforts. Overall, the types of digital marketing vary depending on the target audience and the platforms used.

Numerous forms of digital marketing exist that businesses can utilize to reach their target audience. One popular form of digital marketing is influencer marketing, where companies collaborate with influential individuals in their industry to promote their products and services. Another effective digital marketing tactic is search engine marketing, which involves optimizing a website so that it appears prominently on search engine results pages. Digital media also plays a crucial role in promoting businesses online, as it includes various platforms such as social media, websites, and mobile apps. Additionally, businesses can use digital marketing to complement their offline marketing efforts. For instance, a marketing team can run online advertisements to raise awareness about a new campaign that is being promoted through traditional channels such as television or print media. Overall, digital marketing offers diverse opportunities for businesses to connect with their target audience and achieve their marketing objectives.

Which Type of Digital Marketing is Best?

Choosing the best form of digital marketing depends on several factors, including the specific goals of the business, the target audience, and the available budget. However, several digital marketing tactics have proven to be more effective than others. Search engine optimization (SEO) is often considered one of the best types of digital marketing as it helps improve the visibility of a website in search engine results. By optimizing the content and structure of a website, businesses can increase their organic traffic, generate more leads, and ultimately drive more sales. Content marketing is also highly effective as it focuses on creating and distributing valuable and relevant content to attract and engage a target audience. Social media marketing is another powerful strategy that allows businesses to connect with their customers, build brand awareness, and drive traffic to their websites. Ultimately, the best type of digital marketing will vary based on the unique needs of each business but investing in SEO, content marketing, and SMM is often a good starting point.

What Are the Benefits of Digital Marketing?

Digital marketing offers a wide range of benefits compared to traditional marketing. One of the main advantages is that it provides a targeted approach to reaching customers. With digital marketing channels such as affiliate marketing and mobile marketing, businesses can effectively target specific audiences and tailor their messages accordingly. Additionally, digital marketing allows for real-time data analysis, allowing businesses to monitor and adjust their strategies to maximize results. Marketing automation tools further enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of digital marketing campaigns by automating repetitive tasks and streamlining workflows. Moreover, digital marketing enables businesses to engage in inbound marketing, where customers are attracted to the brand through valuable and relevant content. This not only fosters customer loyalty but also helps to drive organic traffic and increase conversions. Overall, digital marketing offers businesses the opportunity to reach their target audience in a more efficient and cost-effective manner, making it an essential tool for any modern digital marketer.

The Opportunity Cost of a Poorly Executed Strategy

To execute a digital marketing strategy for the products or services you need a plan. A customer centric plan you can have confidence in.

A well executed digital marketing strategy allows businesses to reach the right audience(s). It also levels the playing field for small business, allowing them to compete with bigger brands. It's important to be sure if you're targeting your b2b and b2c marketing audiences properly via brand voice, frequency and cadence of engagement, and ensuring your seo, paid, and social media marketing goes far beyond your natural bubble. After all, you want to grow your prospective customer base. But, what happens when all this goes off the rails?

1. You’re missing out on potential customers

Many small business owners rely on traditional marketing tactics because of their perceived cost-saving benefits. However, that leads to missed opportunities when they fail to properly allocate their resources. For example, an entrepreneur who chooses to invest in social media, paid search or online display advertising campaigns rather than email marketing will incur an opportunity cost. This is because email has a higher ROI than those channels.

Another example is failing to monitor a platform like Twitter for conversations about your brand. This can lead to missing out on potential customers you could monetize, unsure prospects you could reassure or angry customers you could pacify. On average, a dissatisfied customer will tell 15 people about their experience, which can result in lost revenue as well as damaging your brand image.

In the end, it all comes down to the quality of your marketing data. As a result, it’s vital that you understand the importance of good digital marketing and take steps to improve your marketing strategy. Otherwise, you may find your competitors eat your digital lunch!

2. You’re wasting time

Digital marketing is a constant learning process, with new technology and channels constantly emerging. Having a team of experts dedicated to keeping up with this ever-changing landscape is crucial. Without this, you’re missing out on the most up-to-date tactics and strategies that will improve performance, deliver results and drive growth. This also means that you’re wasting time. John Wanamaker’s old saying, “I could spend half of my ad budget and not know which half” applies more than ever to today’s digital marketing. An inability to accurately map activity across devices can lead to ad wastage and missed opportunities to deepen customer relationships. That’s not a good thing!

The best way to avoid these hidden costs is by having an expert team manage your digital marketing. Contact us today to learn more about how Veracity can help.

3. You’re wasting money

Digital marketing is an expensive endeavor. And if you don’t have a strategy in place, unscrupulous vendors can run your budget dry with useless endeavours and other expenses that have no chance of helping you reach your business goals. The best way to avoid this is by having a clear goal for your digital marketing and working with a reputable agency that can help you get there.

At Veracity, we know what it takes to be a genuinely successful digital marketing agency and can help you put strategies in place that will get results. Contact us to see what we can do for you.

4. You’re wasting talent

As any business owner knows, hiring the right people is a huge investment and one of the biggest reasons companies lose money is by making bad hires. According to Lee, talent waste can cost anywhere from $12 -30k per bad hire in addition to time, lost productivity, training, team morale, and more. And when your digital marketing strategy isn’t delivering, it can put the people that depend on it most at risk. The good news is that the solutions are easy to implement and can be as simple as focusing on accuracy in your data and improving your digital marketing techniques.
